Sophia Salingaros is a Bharatanatyam dancer based in New York City, disciple of Guru Dr. Sreedhara Akkihebbalu. Having completed her Arangetram in 2010, Sophia has been invited to perform at prestigious global venues – to name a few: Narada Gana Sabha under the auspices of Kartik Fine Arts, Vipanchee Arts Festival, Seva Sadan, Navatman Drive East, IAAC Erasing Borders, Battery Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, World Government Summit Dubai, and multiple performances at the United Nations and across Europe. Additionally, Sophia has studied intensively under Kalaimamani Rama Vaidyanathan and has performed in her international tours of ‘Vivartana’. She is an ICCR Empaneled Artist, IndianRaga Fellow, and 2013 YoungArts Finalist. Known for her precise nritta and sensitive abhinaya, she is also a blossoming choreographer and often presents her own works as well as those of her guru’s. Sophia is a graduate of Columbia University and is currently pursuing her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Sophia will present a selection of her gurus’s and of her own choreographies set within the Bharatanatyam margam format. Within each piece, she explores how relevance can be drawn to our current world and lives while remaining true to the dance form’s traditional architecture. She brings a fresh approach, stemming from her unique background, and hopes to share the message that art knows no cultural or religious boundaries.
A thrilling encounter with one of the world’s great art capitals.
Based on a major exhibition at the Ashmolean in Oxford, Tokyo Stories spans 400 years of incredibly dynamic art – ranging from the delicate woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige, to Pop Art posters, contemporary photography, Manga, film, and brand-new artworks that were created on the streets.
The exhibition was a smash-hit five-star success and brought a younger and more diverse audience to the museum. The film uses the exhibition as a launchpad to travel to Tokyo itself, and explore the art and artists of the city more fully.
A beautifully illustrated and richly detailed film, looking at a city which has undergone constant destruction and renewal over its 400-year history, resulting in one of the most vibrant and interesting cities on the planet…

The magical harmonies and classic hits of Don and Phil Everly, The Everly Brothers, come to life again at every Lightning Express show. This 5-piece band features Jesse McNamara and Jon Wink (tight, two-part Everly harmonies and driving acoustic guitars), Ron Brzoska (note-perfect electric guitar licks), Dan Hange (classic, bouncy bass lines), and Craig Null (crisp drum rolls and fills). Lightning Express are not impersonators, but instead recreate the spirit, energy and feeling of a live Everly Brothers show.
Since its premiere in 1800, Ludwig van Beethoven's Septet in E-flat major has held a special place in the chamber music canon. It was written during the second half of the 18th century when the aristocracy and the middle class used serenades and divertimentos as light entertainment at social gatherings. The charming six-movement work was written for four strings and three wind instruments, and due to its popularity, Beethoven arranged the work for other instrumental combinations. It was so popular that, to Beethoven's dismay and displeasure, it overshadowed compositions he held in higher regard. Even today, the work remains, arguably, the finest septet ever written.
Without Camille Pissarro, there is no Impressionist movement. He is rightfully known as “the father of Impressionism”.
Born in the West Indies, Pissarro found his passion in paint as a young man in Paris and, by the age of 43, had corralled a group of enthusiastic artists into a new collective. Their first show was scorned by the critics but the group had acquired a new name: the Impressionists. For the next 40 years Pissarro was the driving force behind what has today become the world’s favourite artistic movement.
Pissarro was a dedicated family man, generous with his advice, passionate about experimentation, well-read, socially aware and an anarchist. It was a dramatic path that Pissarro followed and, throughout it all, he wrote extensively to his family. It is through these intimate and revealing letters that this gripping film reveals Pissarro’s life and work.
Filmed on location in France, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the Kunstmuseum in Basel. With exclusive access to the most extensive archive of any Impressionist painter and to the first major Pissarro retrospective in four decades, this film explores the enthralling and hugely important biography of an extraordinary artist.
