There will be no childcare available between our half-day camps.
Here at the MAC, we are thrilled to offer summer camps for youth of various age groups and with a wide range of artistic interests. These camps are a great opportunity for young people to explore the arts, learn creative skills, and participate in exciting hands-on activities.
MAC Summer Camps
Ages 7 to 12

Explore the visual, ceramic, and performing arts! In this one-week camp, your young creative will get the chance to stretch their artistic muscles and try a variety of styles of art. Telling Stories with Paint and Ink (June 9 -11)

Students will have an opportunity to explore autobiographical narrative and fictional stories on canvas and paper using dry and wet medias (acrylic paint, watercolor, and ink) and collage. In addition, students will be introduced to several artists and explore their narrative process and its relationship to canvas to further push their imagination and their practice.

Uglydoll Plushies Inventions (June 9 – 11)

Unleash your creativity and make your very own “uglydoll”-style soft sculpture plushy! In this fun and interactive class, you’ll use colorful fabrics, vibrant fibers, and quirky embellishments to transform your imaginative design into a one-of-a-kind creation.
Students will learn the entire process, from sketching their original idea to creating a pattern, cutting fabric, and hand-stitching techniques that are beneficial lifelong skills. This class combines art, design, and hands-on learning in a supportive playful environment. Leave with your own custom-made plushy and the confidence to keep sewing!

Get creative with sewing and find new ways to create art with needle and thread. In this three-day workshop, you will learn to sew by hand, and practice fine motor skills and coordination. Campers can make 2D sewn images or 3D soft sewn sculptures. All levels of sewing skills are welcome, whether you are completely new or more experienced with sewing. (Please note a service dog may be present at some sessions.)

Intro to Drawing for Youth (June 30 – July 2)

Have you wanted to get into drawing but don’t know where to start? What’s the difference between drawing “from life” and “from your head”? This will introduce you to the very basics of drawing. Draw and shade a simple still life and learn about how to construct primitives to get comfortable with the foundations of drawing.

Comics Without Words (June 30 – July 2)

In this visually-driven class, you’ll learn how to use expressive characters, dynamic panel layouts, and creative sequencing to craft a powerful comic–without words!
Through fun exercises, you’ll experiment with body language, facial expressions, and action to communicate emotions and movement. Explore how composition and pacing can build tension, excitement, or humor—whether it’s a mysterious adventure, a heartfelt moment, or a wacky gag. By the end of the week, you’ll have your own unique silent comic that tells a lot—without ever saying a word!

Ceramics: Handbuilding- Make a Functional Pot! (June 30 – July 11)

This introductory ceramics course is designed to teach the two primary methods of handbuilding for a functional form. Students will learn slab building and coiling techniques, and they will choose which method they would like to utilize for their project. If time allows, students may have the opportunity to try the alternate method on a second piece. Students will be encouraged to consider different shapes and sizes for their forms. They will become confident in manipulating clay and making strong structural attachments. Students will learn proper glazing techniques toward the end of the course, so that they may take their wonderful, finished piece home!

Learn the storytelling techniques that will take your comics to a new level! In this week-long workshop series, cartoonist Jerzy Drozd (Science Comics: Rockets, The Inscrutable Doctor Baer and the Case of the Two-Faced Statue) will help you design unique worlds, refine your OCs, and find the storytelling moments your readers will never forget. Brace yourself for an intense and joyful journey where you’ll learn what comics can do better than any other media.

Storytelling Through Myths, Fairy Tales, and Folk Tales (July 7 – 11)

This fun and imaginative camp introduces campers to the magic of storytelling through myths, fairy tales, and folk tales from around the world. Through lively storytelling sessions, games, and creative exercises, campers will learn how these age-old stories are crafted and how they can create their own enchanting tales. Campers will discover exciting characters like brave heroes, clever animals, and wise old sages, and explore key story elements such as adventure, magic, and important lessons. Through guided activities, campers will practice their own storytelling skills, making up their own stories and drawing inspiration from mythical creatures, magical lands, and heroic journeys. They’ll also explore the ways stories can have a deeper meaning and how to use their imagination to create their own unique worlds. By the end of the week, campers will not only understand the basics of storytelling but will also feel confident in creating and sharing their own stories, inspired by the magical and timeless world of myths, fairy tales, and folk tales.

Monsters and Myths (July 7 – 11)

Step into the world of myths and legends as you design and bring to life your very own original monster! Through sketching, inking, and bold coloring techniques, you’ll develop your monster’s unique features. You’ll also dive into storytelling by creating a myth for your creature—Where does it live? What powers does it have? Is it a hero, a trickster, or a terrifying villain?
With a focus on mythical monsters this class blends illustration, storytelling, and creativity in a fun environment. By the end of the week, you’ll have a fully illustrated monster and a mini comic or creature profile to showcase its legend!

Mess-free digital programs offer up a whole new world of options for art-making. With an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate, students will work on both classic fine arts skills and popular creative subjects such as character design and illustration. (Campers will need to bring their own iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate App. Please have the procreate app pre-installed before class. Please note: third party styluses may not be supported in procreate, and will therefore not be able to access procreate’s full features. Procreate also may not be supported on every ipad model. Please check all compatibility of digital pencils and have the app downloaded before class.)

This is an introductory ceramics course to sculpt with clay. Students are encouraged to think about perhaps a favorite pet they have had, or it could be a favorite animal! Students will receive guidance in creative problem solving to bring their ideas to life. Students will utilize their hands and various tools to experiment with manipulating clay. Proper technique for creating a form and connecting various parts to make a whole will be covered. A fun course for experimenting with the possibilities of clay. Students will learn proper glazing techniques toward the end of the course, so that they may take their wonderful finished piece home!

Character Drawing for Youth (July 21 – 25)

Teen Summer Intensives
Foundations of Drawing (June 9 – 11)

Whether you’re just starting out drawing or working up to your first college studio course, this camp is an excellent way for teens to focus in on the foundational building blocks of drawing. You will focus on the basics of drawing, building technical skills, and learning how to see yourself as an artist. You will gain confidence working with various tools including pencil, charcoal, and ink while learning how to draw from still life, photographs, and nature/buildings en plein air!

Live Figure Drawing (June 9 – 11)

Figure drawing is essential for deepening one’s understanding of one of the most popular subjects in art – the human body. It’s also fun! Draw from a live model to practice your technical skills and grow your confidence in this three-day drawing intensive. This introduction to live figure drawing features models in minimal clothing so students can understand the figure without the models being fully nude.

The Fundamentals of Becoming a Personal Stylist (June 9 – 12)

Are you a teen that’s interested in pursuing a career in fashion? If so, starting in the world of personal styling could be your first step towards success. Author and Professional Personal Stylist, Courtney Stone Smith believes that personal styling is the best place to begin. In her class, students will not only learn about interpersonal skills, but also gain insights into what it takes to become a professional stylist in the fashion industry. Whether you wish to work in editorial styling or work independently with everyday people it all begins with the fundamentals taught in this class. Courtney will guide students in creating impactful style boards, teach them how to effectively communicate with people, assign style tasks to complete, and ultimately provide them with a better understanding of what it truly takes to make it in this competitive field. So, if you’re a teenager that has been told that you have an eye for style, are interested in personal styling and looking to excel in the fashion industry, this introductory class is just for you. (Campers will need to bring their own smart device to browse the internet and access the Pinterest and Canva apps. Please have the apps pre-installed before class. The Thursday class session will meet at Evolverie from 4-5pm.)

With mixed-media art, if you can imagine it, you can build it! Use anything from wire and wood pieces to paper and tacky glue to build your art. Teens will create projects based on their own ideas. Create your own upcycled jewelry. With instructor Yani Sheng, you will learn how to deconstruct recycled jewelry materials to reuse materials. Then you’ll learn how to repaint and redesign the jewelry to transform them into something new! Large Polymer Clay Sculpture (July 21 – 25)

Get wild with sculpture. In this one-week workshop, campers will create sculptures of animals from the land, sea, and sky. Instructor Yani Sheng will help students take a sculpture from the beginning of an idea to research to creating polymer clay sculptures that show off the likeness and texture of a chosen animal. We’ll learn to use hand sculpture tools that help us practice fine and broad motor skills. Campers will even create a landscape setting for their animals!
