Panel Discussion – The Role of Community in Art Making

April Sunami will host an artist panel with Janet George, Wendy Kendrick, and Gaye Reissland focused on the role of community in art making. Each artist will provide insights on how community affects their practice, and the role of community in art making on a local/national/global scale. The panel will include a Q+A with the audience.
This engagement is supported by the Arts Midwest GIG Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Ohio Arts Council.

2024 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition – Regional Show of Region 1

The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, now in its fifty-fourth year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of our talented young people in the state of Ohio. The exhibition is open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the State of Ohio Department of Education. Our purpose is to provide all budding young artists of the state with opportunities to advance their talent, whether that be through scholarships or simply experiencing the process of entering their work in a competition. The exhibition is a valuable incentive for our young people; it encourages an appreciation for the arts throughout Ohio and reflects the fine quality of art instruction and talent which exist in our state. Cindy Rasche – Journeys

This exhibition recreates the signs, symbols and early language created by our earliest ancestors and left behind on their migration out of Africa and around the earth. These ancient marks are incorporated into colorful sculptures, painting and ceramic works and pay respect to our ancestral human creativity. There are also a series of paintings in response to the artist’s own relocation around America and the world.

Stephanie Rond – Spacewalkers (Exhibition Opening Reception)

The public is welcome to an opening reception with DJ Moxy Martinez providing entertainment. Additionally at the opening — and during the run of the exhibition until they are all claimed—patrons can pick up a limited-edition yard sign, specially designed by Rond and printed in cooperation with American Sign Studio. There will be 100 available, and information about where the sign is to be placed will be collected so that the artist can create a map showing their locations. In this way, the work can move beyond the gallery walls and into the world.
