Tonya Bess: Ohio State Alumni Band

The original photograph of the Ohio State Alumni Band marching in the Worthington Memorial Day parade was taken by Vernon Scott Gilmore in the late 1970s or early 1980s.  He was a Worthington resident and most known for his aerial photography and images with Ohio State and the marching band. He was the official band photographer from 1968-78.   He was multi-talented with a passion for athletics, academics, aviation, photography, publicity, and poetry.  He passed away in 2010 at the age of 92.

Tonya Bess has a love for vintage photographs and was inspired by this remarkable picture to “bring it to life” using digital techniques to produce this piece of custom artwork.  Both Tonya and Mr. Gilmore’s daughter, Melody, are honored to present this captured moment of Worthington’s history.
