Adult | Intermediate-Advanced (This class assumes that you are proficient with wheel throwing and/or hand-building pieces and that you have an understanding of how to properly construct and finish your pieces for safe firing.)
Instructor: Beth Dekker
Wednesdays, April 2, 9 , & 16: 6:00pm – 9:00pm at the MAC
Saturday April 26: 9:00am – 2:00pm at the Kiln Room
Try your hand at Raku Firing! We’ll learn about the four main types of raku, and learn to create forms that highlight the raku glazes and process. Students may throw or build up to 3 pieces to be fired at the end of the workshop. Pieces must be no larger than 6”x6″ and 10” tall in order to fit in the raku kiln and share the space. (You may bring more pieces, but there might not be time on the firing day to get them done. If this is the case, you can work with The Kiln Room directly for them to fire it at a later date at a per-item cost.)
We’ll meet in the MAC ceramics studio for the first 3 sessions, April 2, 9, and 16, to create our pieces. The final session will take place at the Kiln Room in downtown Columbus, on April 26 from 9AM to until firings are complete (around 2PM). Each student will have 20 hours of outside-of-class studio time to construct pieces.
