This introductory ceramics course is designed to teach the two primary methods of handbuilding for a functional form. Students will learn slab building and coiling techniques, and they will choose which method they would like to utilize for their project. If time allows, students may have the opportunity to try the alternate method on a second piece. Students will be encouraged to consider different shapes and sizes for their forms. They will become confident in manipulating clay and making strong structural attachments. Students will learn proper glazing techniques toward the end of the course, so that they may take their wonderful, finished piece home!
