Muses have inspired many composers to write masterful works. This was in fact the case for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Carl Maria von Weber, who each wrote quintets for the leading clarinetist of their day. Respectively, Anton Stadler and Heinrich Baermann were muses for Mozart and Weber. From these two composers we received the pillars of the clarinet’s literature composed during the Classical and Romantic periods. Not only did Mozart and Weber write clarinet quintets for their muses but they also wrote concertos, symphonies, operas, and other chamber works that featured the clarinet. Through their music, Mozart and Weber featured the clarinet as a sensual and virtuosic solo voice.

Members of the Columbus Symphony, Robert Firdman, violin; Ariane Sletner, violin; Karl Pedersen, viola and Luis Biava, cello will join clarinetist, Antoine Clark in a performance of these two great chamber works. Also, featured on the program are works by Anton Stadler and Heinrich Baermann.

Chris Trapper & Jared Mahone

Bus Stop Promotions presents Boston’s own Chris Trapper, formerly of The Push Stars (Capitol Records). Our intimate Bronwynn Theatre will be the listening room setting for this special concert event as Chris tours his way through our area. The McConnell Arts Center is pleased to support and help cultivate the singer/songwriter community here in Columbus and is your home to see amazing songwriters from across the country this year. Joining him is local talent and a MAC regular, Jared Mahone. For an upgraded ticket, the MAC would like to invite you to a VIP reception preceding the concert for a chance to eat, drink and be merry with the artists. The reception begins at doors open and the music starts at 7pm. Join us for what is sure to be a great evening of great songwriting, singing, and good fun.

Chris Trapper

Chris Trapper’s ability to craft songs that are both elegant and accessible is evident on each solo CD in his deep Discography. There is a smart, honest quality to the lyrics that never panders.

Trapper’s live show is a favorite among fans of alt–acoustic music. His on–stage persona is warm and inclusive, his organic understanding of classic pop melody infectious. Audience members seem to particularly appreciate the lighthearted moments with the ukulele. They depart the venue at the end of the evening with the sense of having been truly entertained.

A prolific songwriter, Chris can boast high profile film placements including There’s Something About Mary (Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz), The Devil Wears Prada (Meryl Streep), Say It Isn’t So (Heather Graham) and Gun Shy (Sandra Bullock, Liam Neeson) as well as significant television placements including All My Children, Women’s Murder Club, Malcolm In The Middle, a coveted placement in George Clooney’s final episode of ER, the theme song for WB Networks dramedy Pepper Dennis and a cameo on-screen appearance with the show’s star, Rebecca Romjin.

Chris Trapper’s music can best be described as lyrically driven roots-pop with a knack for telling everyday stories filled with extra-ordinary characters.

http://www.christrapper.com

Jared Mahone

In the wake of his 2010 song-a-week creative writing experiment called The Mixtape Project, Jared Mahone found himself with a catalog of songs broad enough for a handful of albums. Because The Mixtape Project was crowd-focused and crowd-inspired, he left it up to that crowd to create their own mix tapes. Fans chose from the extensive catalog, Jared compiled the collective favorites, and then he set out to record what would become his first ever, full-length album completely dedicated to the people that influence and support what he does as an independent artist, songwriter and performer. Whether alone or with his band and their brand of current soul-influenced pop melodies and sonics, he will be touring this new album appropriately entitled “Mixtape” throughout the remainder of this year, expanding his hometown crowd from Columbus, Ohio to the furthest reaches of the midwest concrete-corn and beyond.

The Allies featuring special guests Common Core, & Outburst!
Do you LOVE barbershop? Or even just a cappella music? Then this is the show for you! The Allies are one of the most popular quartets in the barbershop world. Puck, David, Casey and Jared began singing together in 2006 and in their very first contest qualified to represent the Johnny Appleseed District at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Quartet Contest. After finishing 13th in the World, they returned to the JAD to win the 2006 JAD Quartet Championship. In each of the next five years, The Allies finished in the Top Ten finalists of the world at the BHS International Contest, rising as high as 5th Place Medalists in 2010. Having performed all across the United States and Canada, The Allies are well-known for their fun-loving positive attitudes and their big ringing chords! They are joined by two of the JAD’s newest and brightest quartets, Common Core (who just qualified for International in Toronto at their very first contest), and Outburst, to bring you An Evening of Barbershop!
