Richard Duarte Brown, Layers of Life
Corridor Galleries (extended)
Originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey, Richard Duarte Brown has made quite an impact on the Columbus art scene. He received his BFA from Ohio Dominican University in 2012, but he has spent the past thirty years as a teaching artist through organizations including the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ohio Alliance for Arts and Education, Short Stop, Transit Arts and Central Community House. Brown is currently the lead art teacher at the GCAC’s out-of-school arts program Art in the House. He works primarily in mixed media and uses various textures and intense, vibrant colors to paint the “relational desires” and “spontaneous living” in the heart of the community. Through his work, Brown seeks to communicate the support system that emerges from the relationship between human experience and colorful artistic expression.
